Most Popular Canadian Radio Stations Online (By Alexa, June 2009)
Alexa.com is an Amazon.com-owned web traffic analytic tool that estimates website usage. It's not as precise or accurate as comScore, MediaMetrics, Nielsen or other more sophisticated Internet measurement tools...but Alexa is good for getting an idea of what search engines are considering "top performers."
The higher a websites Alexa ranking, the higher "authority" that site receives from search engines.
Having higher search engine authority means it is much easily to get found online through search engines.
Viewing the latest rankings, News & Info stations lead the pack with ten within the Top 20. Corus has 9 in the Top 20, while CBC has 4, Astral has 2, NewCap has 2, CTV has 1 and Rogers has 1. Toronto's airport and business station is also in the Top 20 (in March 2007, it was the "station" with the most Alexa web traffic).
Curiously, Virgin Radio doesn't appear to be captured accurately by Alexa. It doesn't include any of the Virgin station on their list. When searching Alexa for the individual Virgin station traffic rankings, each market's stations (Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, Vancouver) don't show up. Instead, only the main domain (virginradio.com) appears (the station sites are found their sub-domains). Collectively, all Virgin Radio station would rank 26th, just behind CHOM and ahead of Rock 101.
Prior to the Virgin flip, Mix 96 in Montreal was a Top 20 online web traffic radio station.
Here's the latest Alexa search for Canada's top 20 radio station traffic rankings (June 2009):

Labels: Airport Info, Alexa, Canada, CMW, Internet, Radio, Radio Stations, streaming, web trafficNow that the Canadian Music Week Conference is wrapped up and the awards for "Best Stations" handed out, which stations get the most online traffic?
Interestingly, as of today March 12th, the #1 site is not a music format or your typical News/Talk format. It's Airport Talk All The Time on CFYZ 1280 AM and available through www.gtaa.com -- the voice of Canada's busiest international airport, Toronto's Pearson International. They broadcast arrivals, departures, traffic, weather, travel stories and aviation announcements.
In Canada, Alexa says it is ranked 1,138th in total traffic.
3/27 Update: RadioandRecords.com reports that "CFYZ-AM/Toronto -- the Greater Toronto Airports Authority's information station -- is flipping to business talk on April 9 as CFBN. The station will continue running airport traffic reports and travel programming."
#2 CKWX is ranked 3,469th -- with a substantial drop over the past 6 months.
According to Alexa.com's traffic ratings, here are the most visited Canadian radio station sites:1. CFYZ 1280 AM (Pearson International Airport/Toronto)
2. CKWX - News 1130 (Rogers/Vancouver)
3. CKOI FM 96.9 (Corus/Montreal)

Instead of a SecondLife, why not Get a First Life
Labels: Alexa, Digital, GetaFirstLife, Jointblog, Media Trend Watching, New Media, Online, SecondLife, web trafficLast Fall, the online universe of SecondLife was the new media trend buzz. Now that more than 60% of Internet users at home log on through high-speed broadband, it seemed that a tipping point had been reached and passed. Brick-and-mortar business began buying real estate -- and even islands -- with their Linden dollars. People could meet and flirt (and even fornicate) with new "friends".
Suddenly, people could live a new virtual life.
Yawn. Many people found out having a second life can get too complicated. Or boring.
According to Alexa.com, SecondLife remains a popular web destination. But it's growth is slowing way down.
So what are people starting to do if they're not managing their SecondLife anymore. Perhaps revisiting their FirstLife again.
Oh yeah...the job, the family, the real things you're supposed to do.
Alexa says SecondLife is ranked #1,348 in total web traffic...still a strong amount of activity. However, its total reach has dropped significantly since its highest peak right after Christmas.Interestingly, the tongue-in-cheek website GetaFirstLife.com (with slogans like "Go Outside" and "Your world. Sorry about that.") is rapidly on the rise as Alexa's #2 "Mover and Shaker". It's rose 400% in traffic in the last week and now ranks #5,662 overall (up from 30,994).
No virtual life to live there...but you can get the t-shirt.
