HBO and Google Help You Find The Soprano Bodies
It's time to change the old stereotype that Americans just don't know geography. How can couch potatoes across the land suddenly realize there's a world out there? Easy. More TV deals like the one HBO just made with Google Maps.
The new (and near-final) Sopranos season starts March 12th and to help promote it, the Bosses at HBO have inked a deal that truly is smart. Now, if you want to know where the bodies are buried on the popular show, you can just Google Earth it and see where.
Can't remember exactly where Christopher ditched Adriana's suitcase after Silvio pumped a couple of rounds into her back as she tried to crawl away through the leaves? Where did Tony move to when Carmela threw him out? Where was that farmhouse where Tony Blundetto got his head blown off before he could enjoy those last two sacks of groceries?
Fans know it all takes place in New Jersey. And there are fan tours available. But New Jersey is bigger than it looks. A body can get lost there. And, if you have a choice between $3.00 a gallon to drive it or using Google Earth off the the HBO.com site and hard-drive it with your mouse, high-speed me, baby!
It appears to be one of the first commercial uses for the new Google Earth application to promote a TV show. HBO actually is paying for us to view and learn our Soprano geography.
Think of it as an easy Mapquest to get to the Bada Bing Club.
Better yet, think of the broader possible usage for other shows. Especially for things like The Amazing Race or Survivor and any of those reality shows. Now that would be a entertaining way to learn Geography. For the kids, can the Google boys do Bikini Bottom for Spongebob Square Pants?
